I teach people to see the art in everything
I specialize in Arts Integration- finding the connections in thinking between the arts and academic disciplines, and activating both through theatre, film, and creative writing.
Start from Anywhere
Theatre and the media arts are a diverse collection of expressive tools, which makes them adaptable to a wide variety of populations and abilities. As I teach those tools, I strive to lower barriers to access for newcomers while providing challenges for seasoned artists. A moment of meaningful participation might be as simple as copying a movement or sorting a script idea on a sticky note, or it might be as complex as performing a rehearsed scene in front of an audience or camera crew. Wherever student artists arrive at the process, we can build an on-ramp to increasingly vibrant expression.
Find your Superpowers
Every artist brings their own perspective and experience to a collaboration. As a director, I understand that every actor has their own process and their own methods to harness their strengths. As a teaching artist, I work with students to identify those strengths and the processes that will help them grow. As a collaborative educator, I support fellow teachers in identifying patterns of thinking that resonate in other disciplines. I hope to empower teachers and students to incorporate meaningful artistic expression in their work even after our moment of collaboration ends.
Think Like an Artist
Theatre artists see the world in stories and learn to share them together. I draw on Visible Thinking Routines from Harvard’s Project Zero to empower students of all levels and abilities to identify, clarify, and share their thoughts in a collaborative setting.
